The MacInnis Family Youth Sports Fund was established through the MacWala Foundation to honour Dennis MacInnis, a proud son of Richmond County whose lifelong passion for sports helped shape the lives of countless young athletes.

From local arenas to the professional ranks, Dennis built a career in hockey scouting while never losing sight of the values he learned growing up in Cape Breton: hard work, perseverance, teamwork, and community. He understands that participation in sports can open doors, build confidence, and create opportunities that last a lifetime.

The MacInnis Family Youth Sports Fund exists to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent young people from experiencing those same opportunities.

The cost of youth sports continues to rise, creating challenges for many families. Registration fees, equipment purchases, travel costs, and tournament expenses can make participation difficult, even for children who are passionate about their sport.

This fund provides financial assistance to families in Richmond County whose children may otherwise be unable to participate due to financial constraints.

Funding may be used for:

• Sport registration fees
• Equipment purchases
• Team fees
• Tournament participation
• Travel expenses related to organized youth sports
• Other sport-related costs that create barriers to participation

Our goal is simple: to help more young people take part in the sports they love.

Applications are open to families residing in Richmond County with children participating in organized youth sports programs.

Funding is intended for families who can demonstrate a genuine financial need and where assistance would directly support a child's ability to participate.
